Monitoring Your Progress

We monitor our patients’ progress through Osmind.org. Once you become a Klarity patient, we will offer instructions on how to register for this free service.

Medication Interactions with Ketamine

Certain drugs such as benzodiazepines (Xanax, Ativan, Klonopin, Valium, etc.) and lamotrigine (Lamictal) may interfere with your ketamine treatment. We recommend weaning your dosing under your physician’s direction as tolerated starting two weeks prior to your first treatment. If you are unable to decrease your dosage, please do not take your medications the night before and day of infusion. You may restart your medications the night of the infusion or the following day.

Course of Treatment

Ketamine infusion therapy involves an initial series of 6 infusions that take place every other day for a period of 2 weeks. Studies have shown that this protocol for intensive initial treatment maximizes ketamine’s therapeutic benefits and optimizes desired results. While we don’t recommend deviating from this protocol, treatments may be customized to accommodate your personal and travel needs. Klarity Clinic utilizes these proven treatment plans in order to achieve the highest chance of success for you.

Abatement of symptoms may last anywhere from 3 weeks to over 6 months. After the initial course, subsequent single maintenance infusions are typically required.

Day of Treatment

On the day of your treatment at Klarity Clinic, a responsible friend or family member is required to drive you to and from the clinic. Please bring any required paperwork and you MUST bring a Government Issued Photo ID. We recommend that you fast for at least 6 hours prior to your first treatment to minimize the risk of nausea or vomiting. Should you not develop and nausea or vomiting after your first day of treatment, we may choose to relax these requirements.

Upon arrival to the clinic, you will be asked to complete forms to assist us in assessing your progress. After a brief consultation with the physician, you will be seated in a comfortable chair or bed. A small IV will be placed in your hand, arm or leg. During the infusion, we will closely monitor your vital signs. Infusions for depression last for approximately 1 hour. Patients typically recover from the infusion within 20-30 minutes. Expect to be at our facility for a total of 1 1/2 to 2 hours.

If a friend or family member is unable to transport you home, we may allow you to take a taxi or ridesharing service home. However, we will require you to stay an additional 30-60 minutes. You may incur additional fees.

Although we use low-dose infusion protocols, you may experience some temporary side effects. These may include but not be limited to dizziness, blurred vision, nausea, and hallucinations.

After your infusion, you will not be able to drive or operate machinery for the remainder of the day.

Please Note: Cancelling with less than 24-hour notice or not showing for your appointment will incur a $100 fee to be charged to your credit card.
