What is chronic pain?

Pain is your body’s way of saying that something is wrong. It signals your brain to send in healing resources. These resources cause inflammation while your body attempts to repair itself, often making your pain temporarily worse. If your body is unable to handle the problem, you’re left with not only chronic pain but persistent inflammation.

Chronic pain is defined as any pain that lasts for three to six months or more, though many people live with chronic pain for years.

What causes chronic pain?

Chronic pain is a complex symptom and one that can be very hard to address if your body is unable to recognize and repair the source of the pain on its own. There are a number of different conditions that cause chronic pain, including:

  • Previous injury
  • Chronic Headaches (Migraines)
  • Arthritis
  • Musculoskeletal irregularities
  • Inflammatory diseases
  • Nerve damage
  • Fibromyalgia
  • Infections

This list is by no means comprehensive, but it does represent the more common causes of chronic pain.

What is pain management?

If you suffer from chronic pain, you probably know all too well how difficult it can be to treat. The long road of evaluations, diagnoses, and attempts to relieve the pain can leave you mentally and physically exhausted, and no better off than when you started. Even worse, it may also lead to opiate addiction.

Pain management is a field of medicine that helps you manage your pain better through a number of different treatments, often used in combination, such as:

  • Physical therapy
  • Medication management
  • Interventional therapies and surgeries
  • Behavioral therapies
  • Alternative therapies, such as acupuncture and chiropractic care

While pain management can be effective, if your chronic pain resists these treatments, it might be time to give ketamine and/or NAD+ therapy a try.

How can ketamine and NAD+ address chronic pain?

First and foremost, ketamine is an analgesic, which means it stops pain in its tracks like most painkillers. But the ketamine infusion therapies that Dr. Henry Liang in Las Vegas, Dr. Nirvana Kundu in Cincinnati, and Dr. Devin Tand in Upland offer work by creating new synaptic connections in your brain that allow you to control chronic pain. By altering your neurotransmitters, you can find long-lasting relief from chronic pain, allowing you to get back to a normal life.

To boost the effects of ketamine infusion therapy, our board-certified physicians also offer nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide (NAD+) infusions, which restore your body’s energy, promote healing by activating the DNA repair process, reduce oxidative stress, reduce inflammation and better regulate body’s systems at a cellular level.
